Upcraft is a responsive web design that simplifies access to a wide range of DIY tutorials, fostering a vibrant community for beginners and experts alike. The platform offers an intuitive interface where users can browse diverse topics—from home improvements to arts and crafts—and easily create and share content. Designed to accommodate all skill levels, Upcraft not only empowers users to learn new skills but also connects them with others who share their interests.
Developed as part of the Google UX Design Certificate program, this project involved user research, wireframing, prototyping, and design refinement, ensuring that Upcraft meets user needs and enhances the DIY experience.
To gain insights into user needs and preferences for DIY tutorials, an online survey was conducted with 20 participants aged 20-40 who engage in at least one DIY project per year. Using empathy maps, the research identified key pain points, including overly lengthy videos, missing or unclear instructions, difficulty syncing progress with video content, and challenges in finding tutorials tailored to specific tools or problems.
In response, the platform was designed to offer a more user-friendly experience, enabling users to easily find and share tutorials that meet their unique needs, addressing common frustrations identified in the research

During the design refinement phase, the focus was on optimizing Upcraft’s user experience across all devices, ensuring the platform was fully responsive and accessible for DIY enthusiasts. The visual design was crafted with clean lines and vibrant colors, creating a modern, professional look that enhances usability and keeps the focus on the tutorials.
This approach resulted in a visually engaging and intuitive website, empowering users to navigate with ease and confidence. The refined design offers a seamless, enjoyable experience, positioning Upcraft as a valuable resource for anyone passionate about DIY.
